Summit Utility Contractors, LLC - Lewiston
Brennan Duclos first came to the Region II Idaho SBDC in February 2007 armed with the desire and 24 years experience needed to start a utility contracting business.
Duclos researched his business idea by visiting with many of the utility companies and private businesses in the area. The Idaho SBDC helped him prepare his business plan so he could obtain funding for needed equipment and help with start-up costs. Additionally, Region II Business Consultant Judy Schumacher provided assistance with his cash flow projections, projected revenues, sales projections and industry information about additional expenses he might incur during his initial start-up phase.
Summit Utility Contractors LLC is now in its second year and accepts utility contracts up to 100 miles from the Lewis-Clark Valley. The company installs everything from power poles to cable television poles in new, developing areas, as well as replacing existing poles in established areas.
The business is growing rapidly and will be adding a new shop on property recently purchased in North Lewiston. The company currently has eight employees and a considerable amount of specialized equipment. Owning its own equipment was an essential part of the company’s success.
In the fall of 2007, Duclos returned to the Idaho SBDC for additional help to create an employee handbook. He believes his time with the SBDC was valuable and contributed greatly to his success.
