Parcel and Post - Boise
Katherine (Katty) Schuppan became a shareholder and manager for two Parcel Post stores in Boise in 2005. After two years as manager, the majority stockholder made an offer to Schuppan to purchase the balance of the stock in the company.
Schuppan was skilled in store operations, but did not have experience in many critical business processes, such as accounting, taxes and finance. Knowing she needed to develop a business plan and obtain financing assistance through an SBA loan, she sought help at the Idaho SBDC. A consultant began working with Schuppan to come to a fair and equitable valuation for the company.
After several months of working with the Idaho SBDC and her bank, Schuppan was able to identify the cash flow of the company to service the buyout, had a clear picture of the assets she would acquire, and was able to develop a buyout loan package.
Within a few weeks of closing on the transaction, Parcel and Post expanded to a third store in Meridian.
Schuppan has exhibited many traits of a successful entrepreneur. She committed her life savings to an opportunity, worked hard within the company to learn its operations and help it expand and prosper, gathered the help available to her through the Idaho SBDC, her bankers, her accountant, and her attorney and had the tenacity and drive to bring a dream to fruition.
