Backyard Attractions - Lewiston
With inspiration from her brother and sister-in-law, Kathy Patchen opened her dream business, Backyard Attractions, in November 2007, but not before first visiting the Region II Idaho Small Business Development Center in July of that year.
Patchen, a longtime resident of the Lewis-Clark Valley, worked with Judy and Jill of the Lewiston Idaho SBDC on a mission statement, business description, goals, business plan, cash flow and financials. After many consultations with the SBDC, she opened her wild bird seed and yard decor store.
Patchen attends markets in Seattle and Dallas where she purchases a variety of yard deco art, signs, locally crafted lawn furniture and various bird feeders. Her specialty, however, is custom-blended birdseed that is blended in the store.
She is proud that Backyard Attractions is a family owned and operated business. At any given time you can find one or more of Kathy’s family members lending a hand to ensure that customers feel like they are being well served. She has provided an atmosphere that is inviting to people of all ages. She has also enjoyed the rewards of a successful business by exceeding her projections in sales in the community she loves.
“Working with the Idaho Small Business Development Center on my business plan gave me insight and preparation to be a successful proprietor.” Kathy Patchen
