My Architect, LLC - Lewiston

After 16 years working for an established architectural firm in north central Idaho, Tim Lynch opened the doors of his own business, My Architect, LLC, in September 2007. Lynch holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Idaho and has extensive experience in designing, developing and managing a wide range of commercial projects. Since 1993, he has also been working with private home owners to develop custom home designs through his part-time venture, Moonlight Architectural Drafting.

With a steady increase in custom home commissions and armed with passion and desire for growing his own successful architectural firm, Lynch enrolled in the Spring 2007 NxLevel™ class through the Lewiston SBDC. Cautious by nature, he wanted to test the feasibility for his business idea before leaving his employer of more than a decade. The 12-week NxLevel™ program that walks participants through the development of a business plan was the perfect process for him.

While participating in the NxLevel program and receiving guidance from an SBDC consultant, Lynch decided to make his business ownership dream a reality. His market research indicated that residential building permits issued in Nez Perce County and the city of Lewiston over the past three years grew approximately 20 percent each year. He believed the numbers were telling him that the time was right.

While residential architecture is the primary focus of My Architect, the company also offers a full range of services for commercial clients, including, but not limited to, evaluation and planning services, design services, bidding and negotiation services and contract administration services.

Lynch said he encourages other would-be business owners to invest the time and money to develop a detailed feasibility study and, if it seems like all the right success indicators are in place, to go for it like he did.
