KBM Enterprises, Inc. - Sandpoint
While working as VP of "Information Technology (IT) Systems," Kevin Merwin, founder of KBM Enterprises, Inc. realized that small companies generally do not have an IT staff, putting them at a disadvantage. He founded KBM to fill that void by providing equal IT solutions for small and medium sized businesses.
John Lynn, an Idaho Small Business Development Center (SBDC) consultant in Post Falls, helped Kevin develop and implement a business plan. John continues to provide assistance in developing methods to increase working capital, define job descriptions, and shape the company's short and long term goals.
One of the key challenges KBM faces is convincing business owners that paying for regular maintenance is cheaper than waiting for a problem to occur. Another selling point Kevin uses is the advantage of contracting with a team rather than hiring an individual. By having team support, a small or medium sized business acquires a fully qualified staff and certified technicians.
KBM has seen rapid growth, adding 3 new full-time employees in the first quarter of 2004. By identifying a need and working with the Idaho SBDC to craft a solution, KBM is a glowing success.
