Bannock Animal Medical Center - Chubbuck
In February 2002, Montana veterinarian Dr. Walter Rowntree and his wife Laura Reynolds searched throughout Idaho for a suitable location to build the business of their dreams. Thirty towns and hundreds of miles later they had narrowed the choices to Twin Falls and Pocatello, both of which could support what they had in mind. Ultimately, the cultural diversity associated with Idaho State University influenced their decision to relocate to the Pocatello area.
A man of purpose and resolve, Dr. Rowntree knew where he was going and how best to get there. The Idaho SBDC helped fulfill his dream by helping him put together a loan package which was then approved by the Eastern Idaho Development Corporation. The SBA 504 Loan Program was the vehicle that helped fund his facility - along with the participation of Citizens Community Bank.
Bannock Animal Medical Center, an innovative animal health center catering to dogs and cats, opened in mid-April 2003 with a newly constructed, state-of-the-art facility. Owners are impressed by the spacious waiting area with fresh-brewed coffee and chilled beverages; a fish tank and play area to keep children entertained; and a consultation room with a direct view into the operating room.
The animals receive the same special treatment. There is a separate entrance for cats and dogs, a sound-insulated cat ward, filtered water, and an exercise area.
BAMC will have a very positive economic impact on the region. With the creation of nine jobs at this growing practice, Dr. Rowntree already sees the need for three additional veterinarians to staff a 24-hour practice. Now that's a welcome addition to the Pocatello/Chubbuck business community!
