Apex Communications Supply - Hayden

Return

Two men’s dream of controlling their own destinies has quickly grown into a fully viable cable TV supply company with revenues of approximately $2 million.

Jon Cooke and Tim Devine both spent 13 years working for large corporations. In July, 1994, they used that experience to launch Apex Communications Supply at the Panhandle Area Council Business Incubator. The company quickly outgrew it’s single bay and expanded to two bays. Today Apex supports six full-time employees working out of its 8,750 square-foot office and warehouse. An additional 5,000 square-feet is currently rented out to expand the operation.

With assistance from the Idaho Small Business Development Center, Cooke and Devine have learned the ins and outs of cash flow management, inventory control and growth strategies. Despite rapid technology changes putting pressure on the cable market, Apex has been able to recognize trends and make necessary adjustments. This ability to adapt to changing market conditions has allowed the company to successfully expand into the fiber optic cable and conduit industry.

In 1999, Apex purchased Country Cable in Nespelum, WA, a small rural cable TV company with 130 subscribers. The company has further expanded by becoming a distributor for Klein Tools, a leading manufacturer of pole line hardware and tools.
