Smoky Mountain Pizza & Pasta - Boise

In late 1991, Ketchum entrepreneurs David and Jerry Todd opened a restaurant with a simple, yet sound, premise: combine exceptional food with better than expected service and affordable pricing. The concept was a hit, and with the addition of Dan Todd, Smoky Mountain Pizza and Pasta has now grown to nine locations stretching from Ketchum to the Treasure Valley.

As aspiring entrepreneurs, the Todds have utilized many of the resources needed to operate successfully from within their own communities. Not only does buying locally save on transportation costs, it also cultivates working relationships with the business community, benefiting both Idaho and the businesses that operate here. As a way of giving back to the people of the community, Smoky Mountain has actively participated in such programs as book drives, Humane Society night, elementary school fund-raisers, Christmas in the Village and a program to benefit the Idaho Women’s and Children’s Alliance.

The Todds attribute their success in a competitive marketplace in part to the Idaho Small Business Development Center, where they had access to client and consulting information, business resources and, most importantly, the business relationships that are so vital to growing companies.

They also regularly participate in the Kauffman Entrepreneurship Program, and Idaho SBDC sponsored program that links high-performing BSU business students with local companies for their mutual benefit.
